I have been taking class from Carolyn in person (pre-quarantine) and now privately online due to the stay-at-home orders. Carolyn has a vast knowledge about the connections movement has to the body anatomically as well as mentally/emotionally. Additionally, Carolyn creates her classes as a judgement-free space. This results in individuals feeling accepted and safe being open and vulnerable with her/other classmates inside and outside of class. Through taking virtual private lessons with Carolyn, I have gained insight on how to take the movement provided (in her lessons as well as classes from other instructors) and make it fit my body and my artistic discretion. During our lessons, I feel like I can gain stronger technique without the mental/emotional strain of focusing so hard on “perfection” and getting better. After having roughly a year of taking classes from Carolyn, I have grown in areas I had never thought of strengthening and I find myself curious about areas I had never thought to explore.
